Richard Cordray campaigns for change
By T.W. Allen
During a rally in Lucasville on Saturday, Ohio Attorney General candidate Richard Cordray and others were campaigning on behalf of Barack Obama on the Heartland RV tour of Southern Ohio. Some statewide candidates also were campaigning on behalf of themselves. The event took place during the annual Birthday Party for Gov. Ted Strickland.
"It's a great day when I can campaign with Gov. Ted Strickland and United States Sen. Sherrod Brown throughout southern Ohio," Cordray said. "We want to impress upon people the importance of having change from Washington over the next 40 days."
Earlier in the year, then-Ohio Attorney General Marc Dann resigned. Strickland appointed current Ohio Attorney General Nancy Rodgers with a vote to be taken in November to see who will fill the unexpired term for Dann.
"There was an unfortunate episode in that office which lead to a vacancy," Cordray said. "Now we are going to be working to clean the place up. For me, having worked in the AG's office before, it would be a labor of love to become the next Attorney General."
If elected to the office, Cordray said he would fight for Ohio families against financial predators and would make sure Ohio gets its fair share of attention.
"We'll also cooperate more with local law enforcement agencies to help them keep our communities safe," Cordray said.
Cordray is the current Ohio treasurer -elected in 2006.
"The common element in the two offices is that right now we need someone in the Attorney General's office who understands the economic challenges families are facing in Ohio and who will stand up for them," Cordray said. "A lot of issues I have been working on as treasurer are similar."
