Ohio's most precious resource is our young people who will grow up
to be tomorrow's leaders if we can persuade them to stay right here in Ohio.
But to achieve their potential, our young people need strong families and policies
that are supportive of all Ohioans, not just the special interests.
Cordray will work to protect Ohio families against the "gotcha" tactics that are increasingly used by big business. He will continue his persistent advocacy for stronger laws and regulations at the state and federal level that protect consumers and give them a fair opportunity to protect themselves. Cordray wants all Ohioans to have a level playing field where families can focus on managing their finances without worry that the rules will suddenly be changed to their detriment.
As the father of twins who attend the same school system that he attended, Cordray knows the benefits of fine public schools for children, families, and communities. He thus will enforce legal standards at charter schools that receive state funds to ensure that they meet basic standards. Cordray also will create and implement a code of conduct applicable to all student loan companies that operate in Ohio, to guarantee that consumers can have all the facts they need to make more informed decisions about paying for college.
At the state and local levels, Cordray has worked with other leaders to rid Ohio of predatory lenders and unscrupulous lending practices, which he will continue to do as Attorney General. In particular, Cordray will extend his work with Chief Justice Moyer and the courts for effective mediation in foreclosure cases, and will continue to coordinate the Save Our Homes task forces that he initiated in more than fifty counties across the state to find solutions for families facing foreclosure.
As Franklin County Treasurer, Cordray advocated strongly for passage of Senate Bill 185, which created tough predatory lending laws for mortgage lending. As State Treasurer, he pressed for legislation that has been enacted to provide a credit freeze for Ohioans, reform the bankruptcy exemptions available under state law, provide new savings alternatives to predatory lending, and improve the foreclosure process. He recognizes that Ohioans need tough protection against those who profit by cheating others, and as Attorney General he will ensure that our consumer protection laws are kept up to date and enforced with vigor.
